OMEGA Seamaster NATO collection

OMEGA have released a new collection of NATO straps with a veritable smorgasbord of variants in nylon and leather.

The collection includes some fan favorites such those Bond-style NATOs and traditional mil. style Khaki as well as load of different flag inspired designs –

Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden to name but a few.

The NATO are made of polyamide, a textile made of synthetic fibers that is said to offer excellent tensile strength as well as resistance to abrasion.

Besides this they just look super stylish.

The straps feature polished Stainless steel buckles and keepers signed with the Omega name.

The stainless steel buckles on the NATO straps are positioned for improved wearer comfort and the straps themselves are made of particularly high quality materials.

In addition to the Polyamide NATOs, there is also several Novonappa leather straps and an all-black coated nylon fabric strap with fitted black keepers and a polished buckle.

NATO straps evolved from the leather and canvas ones used by British pilots, navigators and army personnel during World War Two.

For safety reasons, wristwatches did not use removable spring bars to secure their straps.

Their fixed bars, often soldered, were less likely to break than spring bars so there was less chance of losing the strap.

Of course, this meant that the straps were created in a single piece that slide through the fixed bars.

I have put together a mere 15 different looks to give you a bit of an idea but the actual collection boasts 39 variants.

You can go and check out the complete collection HERE and pair them with watches from the Seamaster and Speedmaster collections to creat the perfect look.

BTW, how many national flags did you spot? Which one / ones would you get for your Seamaster?

I think I’d choose classic black and grey but would love to get the black one with orange boarders for my Ploprof.

All the different colors are pretty cool but it doesn't get much better than this - old school Seamaster on a mil.style khaki NATO.

CHRISTOPHER WARD C60 Trident Pro 600 new BLUE

Dress it up in steel, dress it down on a NATO or go diving on rubber (in fact CW offer 13 different strap options!) – the C60 Trident Pro collection welcomes back the color BLUE!

Combining modern dive watch looks with the robust build quality you'd expect of a high-quality Swiss diver, the Pro 600 is a CW fan favorite.

However the Pro 600 collection has been lacking for some time the most ocean evocative of colors, blue. CW have listened to their customers and have decided to reintroduce blue to the line.

The watch is the same as any other Pro 600 so expect a 316L marine-grade Stainless steel case topped with –

a scratch-resistant zirconia (ZrO2) ceramic unidirectional divers bezel and the Pro 600’s wavy guilloche dial, finished in a striking marine blue.

The watch is water-resistant to a depth of up to 600 meters - twice that of its predecessor. CW say that the twin flag-embossed crown is also easier to use, while the case-back has CW’s Trident motif deep-stamped on it.

Power comes from a self-winding Sellita SW200-1 movement. Prices range from 725 on steel – 640 on NATO.

What do you think? It’s a little generic at first glance but dive a little deeper and you’ll find a nicely made diver with lots of fine details.

EDOX Sharkman II Ltd. EDITION [record ice-bath]

Edox brand ambassador and resident Iceman, Christian Redl is prepping himself for another dip into the
frigid waters of Austria’s Lake Weissensee in an attempt to break his own under-ice free-diving World Record.

In addition to balls of steel brass, Christian requires an extremely high level of skill and fitness. Even with his 5mm thick wetsuit he will have to overcome bone-numbing cold to reach the record depth of 75m.

Christian set the current record of 65m at Lake Weissensee 15 years ago.

“The biggest challenge is the temperature,” he says. “Everyone knows the phenomenon when you get in a very cold shower or in a cold pool after a sauna. The lung volume is reduced by a third because everything is tight in the body.”

The bitter cold means that Christian, who has been training for the February 24th ice-dive for half a year, can’t warm up. He must start his record attempt without delay, before the frigid air makes his body too cold.

As Edox’s most daring brand ambassador, Christian known affectionately as he Iceman will be supported by a crew of five safety-divers.

He will also be wearing his latest Edox diver, an invaluable tool, the special Edox Sharkman II diver’s watch, one of five in a Limited Edition collection.

The Lake Weissensee cold shouldn’t pose any problems to the Sharkman II as it has a water-resistance of 1000m and its rugged Stainless steel case and scratch and shock-resistant ceramic bezel can handle even the most extreme environments.

Just 300 pieces will be available worldwide from the end of February 2018.

The Sharkman II’s case-back is engraved with a shark motif, a nod to The Iceman's EFFORTS to help protect species worldwide and also symbolic of his connection to the mysterious Greenland Shark which can live for 400+ years.

Along with the Sixgill, it’s a personal species favorite of mine after the Oceanic Whitetip, of course ;)

Down the bottom of this post is a sneak peek at an upcoming version of the same watch - CO-1 N-Pole 42.195 Limited Edition which will be officially unveiled at Baselworld.

Edox Sharkman II Limited Edition basic spec. includes: : a 45mm Stainless steel 316L with black or pink PVD coating options, special shark design engraving on the case-back and scratch-resistant, anti-reflective Sapphire crystal,

water-resistance to 1000 meters, 100 ATM, Edox 102 Caliber with display of hours, minutes, seconds, date, chronograph, dial in either black, blue or white.

The Limited Edition of 300 pieces comes delivered with special watch box, numbered watch certificate and black rubber strap with Edox folding clasp plus an additional leather strap.

So what do you think? Christian Redl is legend, I’m all over the Greenland shark, love the story, the design is alright but I prefer my diver’s non-quartz, please.

Not digging quartz, either? Check out EDOX’s proper diver, the HYDRO-SUB 50th Anniversary LE.
